If you attended and want to review the presentations, or if you missed the event entirely and do not want to feel left out, you can now watch session videos of the Learning Design Summer Camp on the TLT YouTube channel.
Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) recently posted videos from the 2009 Learning Design Summer Camp (LDSC) on its YouTube Channel. The videos cover all the sessions in their entirety.
Like last year's inaugural event, the 2009 LDSC turned the idea of a regular conference on its head in several ways. First, the entire event was planned and executed by attendees, with leadership and guidance from Brett Bixler, lead instructional designer with Education Technology Services (ETS), and Allan Gyorke, assistant director with ETS. This included from the first planning meeting to a group of people pitching in to break down and load equipment.
The event itself was very informal, and encouraged discussion among attendees. Panel discussions on engaging students with gaming, disruptive technologies, digital scholarship, and other subjects were driven by audience questions via the Harvard Live Question Tool (an example). The discussion continued even outside the room it was held in, as people followed the event via Twitter and other social media tools.
While the subjects and the discussion were serious, the event also did a good job of building community through fun activities. Twenty-five attendees participated in the first LDSC 5K Run/Walk. For those who who are not runners, Bixler gave a tour of the Educational Gaming Commons at the Findlay Commons. Four well-attended dinners at various State College restaurants were held, each with a different discussion theme.
